Integrate green infrastructure into urban areas

A diverse range of approaches is needed to incorporate green infrastructure into urban neighbourhoods. Planning for new development and urban restructuring can provide opportunities. However, much of the built environment is already there and is unlikely to change much, so more creative approaches are needed.

Meanwhile, different urban neighbourhoods will face different climatic challenges: city centres will have to deal with extremes of heat, whereas neighbourhoods built on shrink-swell soils may be at risk from subsidence.
