Michael King
Michael King has been working to develop the energy services market for over ten years.
Co-authoring the ‘A new world for energy services?’ report and successfully campaigning for the ‘well-being power’ in the Local Government Act 2000, he then turned theory into practice by jointly establishing Aberdeen Heat & Power Company. Working with the City Council to develop a community-based structure, this model has now been replicated by a number of other towns and cities.
Michael was then invited to chair Solent Sustainable Energy Services Ltd in Southampton. He is currently advising a number of towns and cities on the development of district energy projects and energy services companies well as working on a guide to community heating and combined heat and power for the National House-Building Council.
Michael jointly conceived the Community Energy: Urban Planning for a Low Carbon Future guide and was responsible for project managing its development. This was jointly published by the Combined Heat and Power Association and the Town and Country Planning Association in March 2008.
A long standing fuel poverty campaigner, he was chairman of the National Right to Fuel Campaign for 11 years. He has also worked for 12 years as an Associate at the Combined Heat & Power Association and at the Building Research Establishment.
